The original version, I do hate the digital special effects…

Rather a plastic mask than a bad digital effect…

wow that ewok/robin hood villiage is uncanny

and oh yeah, they had to make han step on jabba’s tail because in the original 1977 scene, han walked behind the man playing jabba so if they didn’t have han step on jabba’s tail on the new scene, han would be walking through jabba.

i liked the new special effect version of the original trilogy because it was necessary to match it up with the new episodes.

I missed commenting on this episode. Great as always. I love the cross over stuff.

As for the special editions – not a fan. I like the orginals better. Jabba looked like crap, sarlacc looked fake, Wampa was terrible, ect. And then the DVD release changes! No more Sebastian Shaw ghost? New Boba Fett voice? Bantha Poodoo, I say!

Thanks for checking out my collection and linking to these videos, they are great! I had no idea there were around, I have a few hours to catch up and watch them all!

Yeah, or maybe Greedo had one too many drinks in the cantina while he was waiting for the right moment to confront Solo! LOL

biggest problem with Greedo shooting first – he’s sitting 2 feet away and misses. Perhaps Han took a midichlorian booster shot that morning.

It does look like the original Jabba!

I’ve seen people on youtube trying to piece that scene back together from various clips, but I have the entire, uncut scene on a disc called “Making Magic” that I got for free back in the mid 90′s with a SW computer game.

I’ve been trying to get it off the disc so I could feature it on an episode of the show, but I’ve had no luck so far.

If I remember right, it’s saved on the disc as a .nut file. Anybody here ever heard of that?

As I said, the new special effects were good, but the greedo scene was just WRONG! LOL

I also had that! It had the log that swung back and forth inside of it… I saw it for sale on ebay marked as a star wars ewok toy once.

also, to add to my first comment on the shared moldings for the toys. I also have the battle wagon from prince of theives, shown in the site you provided.I wish I still had the boxes. I remember john little swinging from the boulder on the box ha!

i prefer the special ed. versions because with the improved image quality, special effects, the emperor holgram scene and additional stormtroopers in the shots helped with the continuity of the prequel movies. also to bring to life those scenes that couldnt be made because of technical issues. i really dont mind about the greedo, etc.

Great show!! this was one of the best so far. Love the toy variations you showed. Not to many know that.
My fav. of all the Star Wars movies are the originals. Nothing can beet them.

It’s interesting that the Friar Tuck figure sorta looks like the original actor who played Jabba the Hutt in Episode 4. I guess you could collect him as a SW figure and call him “Cutting Room Floor Jabba”.

Question of the Week: I’m partial to the original versions. Even though the effects aren’t as sophisticated, I just don’t like any of the major changes in the special editions: Greedo shooting first, CG Jabba the Hutt, altered Ewok Song.

I’m really wishing that I had one of the Sherwood Forest playsets now! I looked it up on ebay. The only one I could find had already ended. It was MIB, and it sold for $51.00.

I looked up the Friar Tuck figure too. You can get one MOC for around $15.00! The only problem with MOC, is that it comes with a cloth robe, so you can’t see the Gamorrean outfit underneath.

I think I’ll hold out for a loose Friar Tuck figure and then recard it on a Gamorrean Guard cardback! LOL!

As I understand it, there are even more scenes that were cut, that may end up back in ANH in a future release of the DVD.

Seems like I heard that there were scenes with Luke and his friends at Toshi Station?

Be sure to check out the website I got these pictures from for more detailed information, and more pictures of “recycled” SW toys.

Yeah, it does seem like they were pretty lazy huh? I guess part of it was the fact that SW was such a huge hit when it came out, and they didn’t have any toys ready to ship with the release of the movie, so they had to throw some stuff together FAST and get it on store shelves.

Yeah, I forgot to mention the new Ewok song at the end of ROTJ.

Princess Midori is going to do the drawing on the show next week. I’ll let her know that you’re going to be out of town, so if she does draw your name, she’ll hold the figure for you until you get back.

Have fun at the beach!

Answer: I agree with everything. I don’t like those things you mentioned and also the new ewok song. I did like the digital remastering and at the time (1997) the special effects were awesome. By the way cool topic this week. OH and I don’t think I’ll have internet access on the 30th, I’ll be at the beach. So if I win I wont be able to email princess Midori!

I still havent seen any of the “special editions”. Sounds a lot like those “lost books of the Bible”. Its already perfect without the “missing” stuff, and most die-hards consider the new stuff a sacrilege.

Friar Tuck looks like he has a full diaper. And I think they even recycled the picture of the kid on the tootbrush package, just colored his shirt yellow. There are SW/SW recycles too: the Land of Jawas /Ice Planet Hoth, and Droid Factory/Jabba’s Dungeon.Kenner was so lazy lol.
