I expected this volcano kit to come with the ingredients to make an eruption. Unfortunately, all that’s in the box is a plastic landscape and a book of instructions…lava not included. I admit, it’s not hard to make your own volcano out of baking soda and vinegar, but come on, I expected this to be a complete kit with orange/red lava like in the picture. Quite a letdown.

The box and pic make it look so exciting. But it is ONLY what you see…no back to the volcano, and the characters ARE that tiny. Be sure you have food coloring, etc. on hand or you cannot erupt it as soon as you open…kinda like buying a toy that requires batteries and not having them onhand. It ended up being fun, but initially was disappointing.

My son is five and has just started school where he learned about volcanoes so Santa decided this would be the perfect gift for him! The assembly is easy, love easy assembly. The biggest problem with this is the directions were unclear. It has 3 or 4 different recipes for the lava but it’s a little complicated figuring out what goes where and how they all mix to create the “flow”. The complicated part is that there are three test tubes on the back that hold all the ingredients and they are not connected in any way so what we ran into was that the flow only came from one area of the volcano. I know it’s a little old for a 5 year old but there were 3 adults and one teenager and none of us could get it to work properly. It turned out being a disappointment for us and my son.

Santa got this toy for our 6 year old Star Wars loving son! This is made of plastic, which makes it much easier to clean and use over and over. Would recommend this over any of the volcanos you can make on your own. It’s easy to get erruptions and fun to watch. Won’t keep a kids interest for more than a half hour, but a good toy to get out on a rainy/snowy day! Make sure you have a couple bottles of food coloring on hand because it uses a lot!
