Star Wars: Episde III Re-Edit “Dialogue with Mace” – “I am the Senate”

By Top Star Wars Toys, November 11, 2010 Star Wars Videos

This sequence has always bothered me and now with the discovery of the complete cue to “I am the senate,” including an amazing, frightening, unused ending, I finally decided to sit down and edit this sequence. Changes: 1) Omission of “[I Think] he is a sith lord.” You just stated he was, why say “I think?” 2) I changed the sequence of shots as the convoy flys away (trying to fix continuity of shadow/placement/ etc.) 3) Moved Anakin flying ship to save Palpatine latter and added a new establishing shot 4) Recut the first few shots of the fight. 5) Moved Anakin leaving the Jedi temple (rather tan arriving at the Senate offices building) here 6) Moved Anakin arriving to the senate offices a bit latter. 7) Removed Anakin running through the hall with the overly dramatic music for him simply skipping through it 8) Cut some breif moments of Sidious saying “Help me!” and such during his fight with mace (better fits the NEW music). 9) Sped up the actual attack on Mace by Anakin by removing Palpatines shot (leaving line layered in) and cutting a bit latter to anakin cutting his hand off.

The only thing weird about the death of mace (the score) is that williams used the same motif as in “Yoda vs Clones”, at 6:50.

This is incredible; fantastic effort. The only thing I would point out is that Anakin’s “I think” was caused by hesitation on his part to accept the fact that his lifelong, trusted friend and mentor is the galaxy’s threat. By proposing that he “thinks” as much, it’s like a refusal of his to entirely accept the facts, which are crushing, to say the least. That being said, the conversation could go without that.

Also, it’s been a while – was that Padme/Anakin scene in the original sequence?

And yet, more music came out for this sequence, making the enitre cue fit if the scenes in the film are re-edited according to it.

I was planning to reedit this, and you have done much better than I would have!

that’s why I split that shot …I agreed…it was like…too obvious

Heh, I think the thing I hate the most from the original edit is Palpatine’s slow wind up. So telegraphed that it’ should be a child’s play parry for the first jedi.

Very slight of hand editing. I really like some of the (unheard) music cue’s you used. Nice Job.

I guess it’s just best to sit abck and enjoy my videos lol…

I guess I should also be complimented that you tried so hard and still couldn’t find my edits. I think that’s the mark of a good editor. One who can edit something in such a way that you don’t notice it becuase it feels so natural.

I have felt like half the problems of the prequels could have been solved with better editing: they actually have been by loyal fans like yourself!

I think you added much more power to this music piece based on how you edited it. Excellent work! =3

The music is actually intended to be there. I haven’t taken out ANY music except that I edited the sequence to fit the original cue as written by John Williams with very little editing of the music. It was in the Force Unleashed video game. The problem with the music at 5:18 is that’s its practically what I used except the one in the film is pitch shifted up like an octave and a half! No trumpet could EVER make that noise lol. I wanted another help me, but it didn’t fit the music heh

Wow this is a really awesome edit! i think this may be better than film version – i like the edits of the scenes , makes the fight in my opinon more darker which u should feel between these two- and i love the music u added when palpatine first blasts mace till he deflects it back and is scarred..its cool

where u get it?

the only two things i would change is keep orginal music at 5:18 and keep the xtra “help me”

Yes. I’ve given him quite a bit of input lol. I’m excited to see Empire, but I’m a bit concerned with what he’ll do with the prequels, which is kinda why I’m doing this… to show you don’t have to do change much or make large sweeping strokes. All the changes in this are subtle.
