For power buttons, I use whatever I can find–caps from magic markers, small pieces of wooden dowel, clothing buttons–anything I can scrounge up that looks good.

The chrome isn’t painted—I just use chrome plumbing parts.

MsBEKA97

August 28, 2010

What do you use for the power buttons and where do you get them. Also what do u use to paint the sabers chrome

I used a handheld Dremel with a cutting wheel. It produces a lot of small sharp metal fragments, so make sure you were eye protection.

flembagg966

August 28, 2010

what kind of Dremel tool did you use? I ask this because my dad got the Dremel 200 for Christmas and he does not know how it works.

flembagg966

August 28, 2010

how did you make the cutouts so well?!

devmaster07

HawK047

August 28, 2010

August 28, 2010

fallbread

August 28, 2010

nano teck the way of the future so cool

monkomonko51

August 28, 2010

you dont need a nano battery you just need a miny tesla coil a you can find those online for fifty bucks all you have to do is cut off the plug in part and hook it up to a AA battery that easy

bluechevelless

August 28, 2010

but his lightsabers won’t work in space, or other planets that don’t have oxygen.

EnigmaHood

August 28, 2010

@thepeach12345 You want to shave with a lightsaber?!

EnigmaHood

August 28, 2010

Imagine using those nanobatteries for your laptop. You’ll almost never have to plug it in. :P

bakemonoshi

August 28, 2010

ok, why discard laser so fast? what if we use a telescopic structure, shooting laser and cutting only in the edge (various lasers), just like the plasma blueprint, but at the tip of the lightsaber a system of mirrors that bend the laser to the center of the cilindrical blade, then bent to the handle and can somehow store the excessive laser energy back in the batteries? LOL probably impossible. Don’t call me an idiot! I’ll cry!

M1CK3Yanimation

August 28, 2010

what about the blade coming back in? if its still a tube shooting out then how is it any different then the damn toys besides the fact that it can cut through things and is dangerous

asimsinthehouse

August 28, 2010

shouldve Wookiepedia’d this

XtremeGoose

August 28, 2010

He could have still made one but with a cable attached to a wind turbine or something so we could see if the tech minus the battery would work.

Mysterio467

August 28, 2010

lol@ the flamboyant Darth Maul at the end

Fapsamup

August 28, 2010

Instead of losing their time on developping imaginary light sabers they should invest on nano tubes and nano technology to store tremendous amounts of energy to create free energy based tools and vehicles…

Those scientific perverts…

MaltezaPleazaa

August 28, 2010

@SatuuuChan even if it is invented in the next 10 years do you think the worlds governments would let it fall into the hands of civilions?your exited or worried about something youl never have even if we had it today

yodabelly

August 28, 2010

wouldn’t the ceramic base be to brittle for the pressures of actual sword fighting?

SatuuuChan

August 28, 2010

At first I wanted to be upset about the 50 years. “50 years?? Do you know how OLD I will be then?! Not cool man!” But then I thought, that 50 years is an estimate based on what we know NOW and assuming that it won’t change much. There is every good chance that someone will find something new in the next 10 years that could speed up the process and even create a better way to make a lightsaber than what Kaku has shown us. Just keep hoping, waiting and searching!

P3Tankman

August 29, 2010

@vinbuik Its contained in a electromagnetic feild so the heat would be contained…i think

thepeach12345

August 29, 2010

@SimKoning
I dont want it to kill, but for cutting wood, pipes, making thinks alot easier to shave, cut, and then us handymans can really fix things arounds the house

SimKoning

August 29, 2010

@thepeach12345 No it’s not, you’ll get your toys once they figure out how to make laser rifles to kill lot’s of people lol

SimKoning

August 29, 2010

@vinbuik I know that’s what I was thinking lol

liptonBlueBirdAdd

August 29, 2010

@ryanbinrichard Every nerd has figured out their age in 50 years and wondered, “Will I be too old to wield a real lightsaber?”. Or maybe it would be the perfect way to bite the dust! Fight some emo teen with mommy issues and lose on purpose :)
