so I came here because I read that two times during this scene Obi Wan and Vader can be seen holding their lightsabers with the colors switched, but I’m not seeing it. there are a couple times during close-ups where the angles the lightsabers are crossing is a bit confusing but I can’t see them explicitly showing one holding the opposite color lightsaber. can anyone see it and point it out for me?

@Andrewy15 Could just be that Obi-Wan really believes Anakin’s lost completely and can’t be redeemed. I think he just calls him that to express it.

@xanderdude123 Yes they were planned, but they weren’t planned to be filled with shitty acting, terrible dialogue, plot holes, aimed at kids and too much CGI because no one would question Lucas when he was creating the prequels. I mean really would you?

Actually, it’s funny that you mention that it’s funny that Obi-Wan calls him “Darth”…because many fans have a theory that Lucas changed the intended plot of Star Wars after the first movie. There were a lot of noticeable changes in style after the first movie. Darth Vader is Governor Tarkin’s bitch in this movie, but later he’s second-in-command of the mpire. Aaand….yes, Obi-Wan calls him “Darth,” like that was supposed to be a first name, not a title.

@luis6079 Well first off, I will say that I am not a “fanboy”, more like a fan… Second of all, I will use a quote that Obi Wan says in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, (The worse of the original films…) “From a certain point of view.” So we all have different opinion of Star Wars, but whether you like the movie, or not, I think we can all agree that Star Wars is pretty awesome.

also, a few things:
Ive felt this way about the prequels long before harry plinkitt, he just pretty much confirms what i was thinking.
regarding special effects:
1. CGI special effects aren’t impressive. A fat nerd in his mom’s basement can make those. Lucas had to do some amazing thigns in the OT to pull off the spex scences. Now he pl ays with his computer. /yawn
2. In the words of george lucas, “a special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing.”

It broke new ground in special effects scenes, but there was still something of substance there.
I’ll agree that the special effects were what made it stick in the minds of people, but that was because the other necissary elements of a movie were there.
if you block everything shot-reverse shot, make the dialouge boring and dry, and have absoluktley no substance or conflict in your characters other than the type a 5 year old would envision, well the special effects really don’t matter

I remember when this came out in 77 up until the prequals it was never mentioned about any ‘internal conflict’, it was just two old enemies fighting – all fans cared about was how the effects were done. @TheDeistAngle Hmm. I have been a fan of Star Wars since I was 10 in 1977. Until the prequals came out – never, not once! Was the OT Star Wars known for either it’s camera work (which is quite static during the non-spex scenes) or it’s ‘story arc and acting’ (if anything, the story was always compared to other movies in which it was lifted) – all press and word of mouth was effects, effects, effects. Now, it is all reveresed and two-faced. This prequal hating nonsense is really getting old.

The Prequals didn’t “kill” the franchise – bitch, whine, complain all you want – they will be around and adored long after you and I are gone.

its kind of jarring to watch this and then watch their duel in revenge of the sith. in that one theyre both awesome, and in this one, theyre either weak or just playing around

You clearly don’t understand good film.
Compare camera work in the two trilogies. George Lucas should never direct again, when someone else had their say, the movies were brilliant. When Lucas controlled everything, the camera work was amature shot/reverse shot and the blocking was boring und unrealist.c

@xanderdude123 They were planned by Lucas during the development of the originals, yes. That doesn’t mean they’re good, though. I suggest watch RedLetterMedia’s reviews of the prequels, then you’ll understand why those films killed the franchise.

I look at the comments and I see essays being written. Can we just sit here and watch one of the most memorable scenes is Star Wars.

@Andrewy15 Well, the idea of “Darth” being a Sith title didn’t come into play until quite awhile after this movie came out. At the time “Darth” really was his first name.

I feel CG, greenscreen etc, r mere tools and it is the film makers abuse fo them which has led to such degredation. used appropriatly they can enhance a film. I was of the gen u speak of, well technically I remember batman TAS, but I was too young 4 it but rediscovered it in 05. yes its leagues ahead of those other shows, then again its league ahead of everything. Poke was crap it must b said but Digi had gud characters in S1

@227060 most of those kids also grew up on pokemon and digimon and yugio. I grew up on 1992 batman animated series..I can tell the difference between the good writing and the real airbrush animation compared to all the other CN wannabe batman series. I can tell the difference between quality and crap. These kids who like the prequels grew up in an era where green screening became the normal. Green screening has destroyed films in many ways and CGI as well.
