Lego hits a home run with this mechanized model of the AT-AT you first saw terrorizing the Rebels on Hoth in Episode V of Star Wars. This advanced model (more than 1100 pieces) features a handle on top for easy transport, but the kicker is both its size (over 12″ tall and 14″ long) and the mechanization. With the addition of 6-AA batteries, this model uses its articulated legs to walk smoothly and “effortlessly”, with the head swiveling… just like in the movie!

The disappointment? Not too hard to build. I do have an expectation that these collector sets are more complicated and take more effort to construct.

But it’s so cool when it walks!

I just finished assembling Lego’s motorized AT AT. Not only does it look fantastic, but it actually is fully mobile. After tweeking the gears and the legs a bit, I managed to get the AT AT to walk smoothly on my tile floors. It’s not a toy for young children because of its fragility and small parts which can easily be swallowed, but for adult “kids”, it is definitely a wonderful collectible that will provide many hours of fun.

I got this set for Christmas and it is the coolest set I own! I’m 12, and it wasn’t too hard for me to build (it was actually quite fun to build). Here are the pros and cons…

Pros:

-IT WALKS!!!

-Fun to build, lots of pieces

-AT-AT driver

-Handle on top makes it easy to tranport

-Motor

Cons:

-Battery box takes SIX BATTERIES

It’s really cool (almost creepy) to see this the finished model walking across our carpet!

I thought that this toy would be delicate, like most models, however this particular model is stronger than most so if your child wants to play with it, they can go right on ahead, and not be afraid of breaking it. (Unless it is dropped or hit). The AT-AT is detailed in the sense that it resembles the real thing. It is a bonus that this lego model actually moves, which is pretty cool. That means that your child can stage star wars scenes. It wasn’t that difficult to build, I think the minimum age should be about 10.

My 12 year old son thought the AT-AT was reasonably challenging to set up, but it was worth it. The walking is very wobbly and it seems to almost topple, but keeps itself upright. Walks best on carpet. Is delicate though which is why I rated it low on durability.
