Highrise,1980 – Alien space ship steals Rhodes Tower from Columbus, Ohio – Unseen/Rare Short Film!!!

By Top Star Wars Toys, June 8, 2010 Star Wars Videos

Many years ago local libraries had 16mm film collections. I found this film at the Grandview Library in Columbus, Ohio. I loved this short film and transfered it to video. I always wondered who made it. Well recently, I finally put it all together. This film was made by Mark Sullivan while I believe he was still attending Columbus College of Art and Design. Mark went on to become one of the best matte painters in Hollywood. I recently emailed Mark and told him that others need to see this film. He gave me permission to post this on You Tube. More about Mark’s accomplishments follow. Mark’s website: www.digitalmatte.com Mark Sullivant: Matte painter and special effects supervisor at ILM who entered American film with SAHARA (1983). Other notable credits include ALLAN QUARTERMAIN AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD (1986), NADINE, THROW MOMMA FROM THE TRAIN, WHO’S THAT GIRL and MY DEMON LOVER (all 1987), RAIN MAN (1988), INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE, GHOSTBUSTERS II and THE ABYSS (all 1989), AKIRA KUROSAWA’S DREAMS (1990, also special effects supervisor), THE DOORS, BACKDRAFT, THE ROCKETEER, HOOK and BUGSY (all 1991), TOYS (1992), THE HUDSUCKER PROXY and WYATT EARP (both 1994), NIXON (1995), PLEASANTVILLE and ANTZ (both 1998), THE MUMMY and STAR WARS: EPISODE I – THE PHANTOM MENACE (both 1999), TO EASE THE LOSS (2001), STAR WARS: EPISODE II – ATTACK OF THE CLONES (2002), THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST (2004) and APCALYPTO (2006). Nominated for Achievement in Visual Effects 1991

In Theaters:19 May 2005 It is three years after the Clone Wars. The leader of the droid army, General Grievous, has captured Chancellor Palpatine on board his ship, the Invisible Hand. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker must fly through Coruscant safely, and enter the Invisible Hand so that they can rescue the captive Chancellor. Just when Palpatine is about to be released, Count Dooku shows up. Obi-Wan and Anakin both battle it out with him, but Obi-Wan ends up unconscious. Anakin slices off his head and kills him. Anakin carries Obi-Wan, and Palpatine follows him. They meet General Grievous face to face, and Anakin tries to fly the last half of the ship so that they can safely land on Coruscant. Later, Palpatine starts acting strange, constantly manipulating Anakin into believing that the Jedi Council is against him. Eventually, it is found out that he is the Dark Lord of the Sith. Jedi Master Mace Windu fights him, along with three other Jedi that accompany Windu. They all fail. Anakin becomes Darth Vader, believing that he can save Padme from death by becoming evil. After a fierce battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin, Anakin gets fried by the lava at Mustafar. Palpatine takes him to a medical facility, where he gets fake legs and a fake arm attached to him, along with a breath mask, and a helmet. And thus, Darth Vader was born…the Death Star is shown under construction, a weapon of mass destruction that is sure to be used in the future. Genre

Columbus back then was very pergressive, now that city sucks. old people in Columbus, the baby boom are cool. But my generation age less than 46 years old group there are unwelcoming in that city. I like the art effects. I live in that city a few years and few years too long.

Cool, but what is the point of the taking of a building just to merely move it?

Great short film! I first saw this on cable TV a long time ago! It might have been on The Movie Channel (TMC) for filler material in between movies, but I’m not 100% sure. It might have been MTV’s Liquid Television for all I know. Anyone else remember seeing this on cable TV? The weird thing about this short is that I only saw it ONCE, and never again until I saw it up here! Thanks for the upload, LassoProductions!

Not bad for A science fiction home made film. I would of liked to have seen more of it for character analysis but what I saw was good. Good job!

I remember reading and rereading the article on HighRise. This is the first time I’ve actually seen it.

CINEMAGIC, loved that mag. It was The original “Indy Mogul”, way back before there was a World Wide Web.

Wish I could get hold of scans of those mags.

Ken Walker is a multitalented guy, he did the music for a number of productions including The Deadly Spawn. But I mostly knew him as a great machinist who created the mechanics for a bunch of live action creature puppets and stop motion puppets as well.

I wondered about that Kenneth Walker name. He’s the same guy who did the music for Don Dohler’s Alien Factor, isn’t he? I remember an article on the construction of a model spaceship he made in another issue of Cinemagic.

*sigh* oh how I love nostalgia! I remember seeing this trailer back in November 2004 and being so excited for this movie! I love SW! It’s so awesome! I can’t believe it’s been almost 5 years since this movie came out! It’s still as EPIC as EVER! I haven’t seen it in months but seeing the trailer again made me want to cry. I saw it 3 times in the theatre and it was AMAZING! Star Wars is FOREVER! May the Force be with you…always!
