Adobe After Effects Light Saber Fight.
Â
My first real attempt at special effects animation using Adobe After Effects. Major thanks to the creators of “Ryan Vs Dorkman” for the unedited footage to practice one. The clip contains quite a number of errors and mistakes, but I doubt you will notice them as much as I do. I’m really pleased with this, and really proud… it took a LOT of trial and error but I got there in the end. Enjoy =)
Video Rating: 4 / 5

Awesome vid! But can you help me?
How do you have the light sabers appear behind and not in front of you? And also, when you move closer to the camera, how do you enlarge the lightsabers size for that segment? Thanks in advance!!!
July 26, 2010

10/10
July 26, 2010
Where did you get the sound effects? I’m afraid my own meagre efforts have failed to produce any sort of lead…
July 26, 2010
would look better with color correction but good stuff anyway
July 26, 2010
@DnRprodxIL Uhhhhh…. I wasn’t the one who said to make a tutorial. I wanted to see their final project.
But, to address you, the reason why someone asks other amateurs is because it’s a learning process. If someone wants to share information, why would you try to stifle that? People are excited and want to share with others.
Anyway, take care and have a good weekend.
July 26, 2010
@cookingwithanarchy why should he make a tutorial when it clearly states that it is ryan vs. dorkman footage. Wouldn’t you think to check out their website and read THEIR tutorial instead of relying on an amateur?
July 26, 2010
wow really cool!!can u make a tutorial showing how to make this?
July 26, 2010
Very good job! Looks fantastic!
Did you guys make that as just a test? If so, I’d love to see if you had a final project you were working on.
Again, good job!

What is the name of the form when you hold the lightsaber backwards like Starkiller and Ahsoka Tano?
July 26, 2010
@avengedman666
form 3 was developed for blaster defence, that’s why it not so good in a duel, and just delays the invertible, but excellent for deflecting blaster bolts.
July 26, 2010
im a stick and sword fighter and i personaly think form 3 is useless because i have yet to have time to let my opponent “get tired” most fights are usually only a couple of moves long if its one on one fight, if its multiple opponents you might be able to have the fight last 30 seconds or longer if you actually win, so form 4 or 5 are probably the most realistic forms since they have speed and power, and never mind the spinning or aerobatics that will usually get you a date with the blade end
July 26, 2010
@kevingong It’s difficult to say, but his fighting style is close to Shien
July 26, 2010
@avengedman666 haha yeah seriously, people don’t understand star wars, and honestly i use the quotes from yoda on an everyday basis! if i were to be there when you did your lightsaber battle i would honestly think you would be the coolest person ever!
July 26, 2010
dude that is so awesome!!! school speech! how cool are you!
July 26, 2010
What form does Star Killer use?
July 26, 2010
hey next time you do someting like that make sure to include the JAR-KAI form. just friendly advice.
July 26, 2010
@bl4ckm4ge At least they were laughing, rather than pointing fingers and hissing right?
July 26, 2010
I think a way that might enable such people as these to take it more seriously would be to cross IC references over with the OOC, “source material” concepts they were taken from; that is to say, many of the Eastern teachings on swordsmanship, especially those of the Japanese samurai. The writers of Star Wars might put in a lot of frivolity into the tales, but when it has come to actual COMBAT forms, they’ve asked actual instructors to instruct THEM on how it should be written/shown.
July 26, 2010
@bl4ckm4ge yeah i know. you could use real swords because these are real forms. most people don’t realize that you don’t want to use real swords. we will be cool someday when we have all the money. hahaha
July 26, 2010
For middle school, for both years in each talent show, I did a lightsaber battle.
7th: I was more of the Form III user.
8th: I was a Form II, III, V and VIII user. (Even though my opponent managed to stab his lightsaber in between my eyes and whacked his blade on my right eye.)
July 26, 2010
when i was in teh eigth grade i did my speech on the different ships and fighters in star wars……needless to say nobody got it, then a few months later we had to re-create parts from hamlet so me and my friend did a fight scene with lightsabers and failed because hamlet didnt use a lightsaber…people just dont get star wars
July 26, 2010
@jackiechanmonro duuuuuuuuuuuuuude…. lol
July 26, 2010
your my hero !
July 26, 2010
@bl4ckm4ge I now, people mock me when I talk about Star Wars.

well… you win my respect !!
July 26, 2010
EIGHT PPL DONT LIKE THIS ( they need to BE BANNED FROM YOUTUBE AND TOONTOWN )
July 26, 2010
I wonder how would people react on it in Poland… ehh thats why I would like to lvie in America.
July 26, 2010
@jackiechanmonro
Don’t be so nit-picky. Soresu-kai and Soresu-ko are just variants of Form III, while Shien and Djem So are just variants of Form V. Vaapad and Juyo refer to the same thing (although the later is most known as a Sith variant). Jar’Kai is more of a *style* than a form, referring to fighting with two blades.
Besides, lightsaber combat is a fictional martial art applied to a fictional weapon. Interpretations between users will be different.
July 26, 2010
haha you’ve got balls!! respect!
July 26, 2010
You forgot Jar’Kai and your opening stance on Djem so was wrong! And also, the forms are 11…
1.Shii-Cho
2.Makashi
3.Soresu-kai
4.Soresu-ko
5.Ataru
6.Shien
7.Djem So
8.Niman
9.Jar’Kai
10.Juyo
11.Vaapad
July 26, 2010
The people who laugh just don’t think, because lightsaber combat does have a practical use in the real world, such as Mikashi is derived from fencing
July 26, 2010
he knew people would laugh at him and besides i thought that was freaking epic
July 26, 2010
cool 5 stars! i personaly study form II my self.
everyone who laughs are just stupid, they have no understanding.
